NATIONAL PARK KORNATI

A separate, in many ways special island group by the name of Kornati is located in the central part of the Croatian Adriatic sea. It is characterized by extraordinary beauty, interesting geomorphology, large lenghth of the coastal line and an extremely rich underwater ecosystem.

Due to extraordinary beauty, interesting geomorphology, large lenghth of the coastal line and an extremely rich underwater ecosystem, a major part of the Kornati aquatorium was proclaimed a national park in 1980.

Nowdays, NP 'Kornati' covers the area of 220 square km, including a total of 89 islands, islets and rocks with a total of 185 km of coastline. Inspite of the relatively large number of islands, the land constitutes less than 1/4 of the national park, while everything else is a marine ecosystem.

Diving in the National park Kornati is allowed with the additional permit and a monetary compensation in the amount of 100 kuna. Wherever you dive, you are in for an extremely exciting and unforgettable dive, but we would definitely recommend southern cliffs of some of the Kornati islands, reaching as high up as 100 m and going down to unreachable depths. The 'walls' are full of life. According to official data, 352 plant species, 13 of which are endemic in the Adriatic, live in the NP Kornati. There are also three flowering sea plants. As far as the animal world, the number reaches up to 850 species. All of the above can be divided into: corals (22 species), mollusks (177 species), polychaetes (127 species), ten-legged crabs (55 species), echinodermata (64 species) and fish (160 species).

All of this makes diving in the NP Kornati unique. It is something you cannot allow yourself to miss!

Diving club Vertigo works with children and teenagers towards advancing and enhancing their knowledge of diving and their diving skills. Kids aged 8 - 12 are taught according to Scuba rangers program (project "Learning to dive is better than loafing in the street"), whereas the children with special needs, aged 8 to 18, are taught according to the special "Diving program for children with special needs".
